Football Supporters Europe (FSE) joined SAFER project partners in Lisbon, Portugal, on 24–25 January 2025 for a meeting to review progress and plan the next steps.
Hosted by the Autoridade para a Prevenção e o Combate à Violência no Desporto (APCVD), this was the third meeting since the Erasmus+ project began in April 2023.
SAFER brings together supporters, experts, and football stakeholders to tackle gender-based violence and discrimination in the game by establishing prevention and remedy mechanisms for football fans and other match attendees.
During the meeting, partners reflected on key achievements from the past year, including SAFER’s involvement in UEFA EURO 2024, the completion of the Research Report, and the first phase of pilot site activities. Discussions also focused on the next steps, such as developing the project’s Good Practice Handbook, which will be presented in Brussels at the end of the year, and preparing for the final stage of pilot site work.
FSE’s EU Projects Specialist, Mattia Angelini, said: “It was great to reflect on what we have achieved together and to see our partners committed to the important work ahead. Meeting in person always helps to strengthen our cooperation and motivation.
“By the end of the SAFER project, we will be able to share vital data, tools, and good practices with key stakeholders in the football environment to promote a safer and more inclusive game for everyone attending matches.”
FSE thanks all partners for their contributions and APCVD for their warm hospitality in Lisbon.
